Service Description
In this series of art classes we explore many new materials, techniques, artists, inspirations, and learn how to loosen up and let the art begin to flow. -Week 1 : Intro to mark making, Loosening up, Encountering new materials that often lead to breakthroughs in confidence and new techniques to try -Week 2 : Gesture Drawing and drawing from observation. We expand on our mark making and learn to develop our motion while drawing to help us find shape size and volume of objects we observe in our environment. -Week 3 : Intro to Grid Drawing. We learn how to draw things we never thought possible! From Dolphins to Cameras, Sailboats to Trash Trucks, we listen to our students and bring in things that they have ALWAYS dreamed of drawing and we succeed! -Week 4 : Exploring Sculpture. We begin our first project by diving into sculpting hands first. We spend time making gesture drawings of a number of different things from observation. We pick our favorite Gesture drawing and trace it with wire and a small pair of pliers and wire ties. -Week 5 : We complete our wire drawings if needed and begin to bend and pull out the wire turning our squiggly gesture drawings into a 3 dimensional version of our favorite gesture drawing. We add a surface layer and begin adding our finishing materials which can get a little messy. We always provide artist aprons and gloves. Week 6 : We complete our layer of finishing material on our sculpture and work on our surface, creating raised areas, smoothing others, etching and brushing until we feel confident with our work. Week 7 : We paint our sculptures. This will take a few coats and is a great opportunity to experiment with color and what type of finish you like. Voila! A Michealangelo you are! Week 8 : We change gears and start to work with some paint. This kicks off with both a group project and a personal project that we can work on at the same time. Learning how to create a wide variety of textures and how to etch into those surfaces. Week 9 : And then! We Sand! Using sanding blocks we sand both our group landscape painting and our personal works on paper to create wonderful depth with smooth surfaces. We can begin to make decisions about color and being painting! Week 10 : Continuing to layer our paint to create stunning layers of color, we decide when things look just right and then learn about how to seal our paintings. We then pick our backing panel and learn how to mount our own work for display!
